Amy Chavez, is an author and writer. She was a columnist for The Japan Times (1997-2020) and has published in newspapers and magazines in Japan, Indonesia, Taiwan, New Zealand, U.K., Canada, and the U.S. and has been interviewed on BBC and NPR radio. Her books are "Amy's Guide to Best Behavior in Japan" ("know before you go" tips on what to do and not do when visiting Japan) and "The Widow, the Priest and the Octopus Hunter: Discovering a Lost Way of Life on a Secluded Japanese Island" about her 25 years of living on Shiraishi Island (population 361) in Japan's Seto Inland Sea. She also runs the Books on Asia website and hosts the Books on Asia podcast.
